Indicted Fracking CEO Commits Suicide & Bill Clinton’s Seed Money

Former fracking CEO Aubrey McClendon committed suicide March 2nd.  The previous day he had been indicted for price fixing on natural gas fracking leases in Oklahoma.

His company had previously paid out $millions in restitution for a similar scheme in northern Michigan.  That combined with having personally mortgaged company assets lead to his ouster.  Shades of JR Ewing mortgaging the South Fork.  But JR got away with it.

After buying the Seattle SuperSonics he boasted to the press that he and his partners intended to move the team to little hometown Oklahoma City. This statement exposed the NBA commissioner as having misled the public about the deal.  The NBA levied a $250,000 fine upon Aubrey, presumably for the loss of face.

By the way, Louisana/Arkansas natural gas money got Bill Clinton started in politics.  It so happens that one of his kindergarten classmates, Mack McLarty, became CEO of natural gas giant Arkla.  Up Bill’s election, Mack was made White House chief of staff.  According to Bob Woodward, Mack wasn’t up to the role.  After a year of service he was replaced by Leon Panetta.
